There are two groups of three working in parallel. One working on the big questions about notation. What is notation, what is it used for, what is not good for.
The second team are focused on looking into the important elements of notation – what is the role of abstraction, what level of abstraction is suitable and other very specific questions.
We have also identified some areas which we are going to avoid because they lead to a philosophical / conceptual vortex – ‘is language notation?’ being one of these. These were written on large pieces of paper and pinned on the wall to help us frame the scope of the book as we create it.
The groups worked independent of each other and came together to discuss larger issues over lunch and at a more extended review period before dinner.
Update 22:35 : another 15 minutes or so before we finish for the day. 9,000 words, many amazing discussions, images, and texts.
