CMV GuideBook Sprint in Ethiopia

How can a regional agreement on an issue as complex as mining be brought down to the diverse contexts of those nations that adopted it?

After an initial day of presentations on the first experiences of translating the African Mining Vision (AMV) into Country Mining Visions (CMV), a Book Sprint started next to the Crater Lake Kuriftu in Debre Zeit, Ethiopia.

What are the issues in formulating and implementing a Country Mining Vision?

Invited by UNECA in cooperation with the African Union Commission and the African Development Bank with the support of the GIZ, Book Sprint facilitator Barbara Rühling assisted by Laia Ros guided twenty-two contributors with a broad spectrum of expertise to write the Country Mining Vision (CMV) Guidebook collaboratively. The book intends to raise key questions, offer guidelines and tools to assist the domestication of the AMV in the diverse national contexts of the African member states.

Day one of the Book Sprint was characterized by intense discussions on the scope and the form of the book, followed by writing sessions in smaller working groups on the second day. The third day saw more writing but mostly revisions and rewrites, which left a day and a half for debates, some restructuring, final revisions, and then the finalization the book on Saturday at noon.
