Cambridge University Press published Human-Robot Interaction book

Human-Robot Interaction: An Introduction Produced with University of Canterbury, January 4-8, 2018

As we recently concluded a Book Sprint at the United Arab Emirates University on the topic of robotics in education, we look back on the first Book Sprint on robotics that we did. In 2018, some of the same participants and some others sprinted on human-robotics interaction at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. We are thrilled that the book was recently published by Cambridge University Press, under the title Human-Robot Interaction: An Introductionand it can be found here. The PDF version of the English book is also available. The book was already translated into German, published by Hanser, and the university is currently working on the Chinese version. Congratulations!

The group of authors included both engineers and social psychologists. While we always recommend participants with different backgrounds – since it enriches the discussions and the content – it might also present a challenge during a Book Sprint. In this case, the first impulse was to work with engineering and social psychology on separate parts of the book, as it might usually be addressed in their academic disciplines. After many discussions and exchange of ideas, the participants decided to be more innovative and pull both sides together. Our facilitator Faith Bosworth ensured that each working group included participants from both perspectives while developing the content. It was not the easiest choice, but undoubtedly it highly motivated the authors throughout the whole process to create a really novel book.
